Totò Peppino and the Hussy: movie review

Did you know this movie?

I did but I had never watched it until last week, with my boyfriend I decided to introduce him to the world of Totò. Totò whose real full name was Antonio Focas Flavio Angelo Ducas Comneno De Curtis di Bisanzio Gagliardi (quite long, uh?) was a hugely popular comedian in Italy, working between theatre and cinema during both the fascist years and the post-war boom. With his wit, neapolitan accent and great intuition for good stories Totò is a true star in Italy.

What about the movie?

Totò Peppino and the Hussy is funny! No rocket science there as the movie plays on many, maybe too many italian stereotypes but it does so without getting vulgar and with a good rhythm. Basically this is a true italian cinema classic that you should watch if you like Buster Keaton's movies.

Here is a famous scene of the movie where Totò and Peppino address an Italian officer thinking that he doesn't speak italian: here again the divide between south and north of the country explained in a very funny and I'd say cute way.
