Let's make it clear from the beginning. I don't usually go to movies like this, I simply wait for them to come out in DVD and rent them, but since I recently purchased a one year unlimited card deal at Cineworld well I wasn't as picky this time. And I won't be in the future, that's why I opened up this "Movie" section of the blog.
The people at the marketing team of this movie must have done something wrong; the reason being that the idea everyone among my friends received from posters and trailers (especially the teaser), was that they were about to watch a movie from Marvel, full of action and blasts with fearless display of muscles and super powers. The truth is that they were undoubtedly disappointed. I mean no harm, I liked the movie, I'd give it 3 hammers out of 6, but it's because I am a geek girl, crazy Star Wars fan, who enjoys romance mixed with some fantasy: that's what Thor is. I saw no sign of "Battle on Earth" as acclaimed in the trailer.
I was well through the middle of the movie and realised that the action hadn't started yet: 'oh come on, let the dude fetch the hammer!' was my cry, but Kenneth Branagh had something else in is mind. Yes, the director is Kenneth Branagh... I admit it, I didn't read the tiny writings on the poster mentioning the whole crew, but it's also true that displaying on the top of the poster the name of a director that is usually associated with comedies and dramas of Shakespearian origin isn't the best way to advertise the movie to young teenagers looking for some movie to watch on a May's Friday evening.
Bottom line, go and watch the movie if you like Nordic mythology explained as a world of high technology mixed with magic, the muscles of Chris Hemsworth (or alternatively Natalie Portman), and good sentiments.
