San Francisco typography

As soon as I got back from my trip to San Francisco in January I felt the urge to write a blogpost about my impression on that city and I had already written something about the variety of typefaces you can see are used in San Francisco. See post.

I went back to San Francisco in early July and I couldn't help to notice again this peculiarity. Here in Europe the use of Fonts isn't quite as rich, I think the only comparable city might be London but again, London is not really a typical European city. On my last day in San Francisco I went shooting some pictures, especially close to chinatown and here are some details I want to share with you...

The variety and also the ensemble of all different typefaces placed one next to each other create an effect that reminds of far west cities in the nineteenth century. Each and every single shop define its identity by creating a unique visual identity that's a mix of type, colour and spacing. A great experience for the eyes.
