Setting yourself apart: for men

This post is written in Bruxelles but published in Dublin. I spent a lovely weekend with friends and I am still in a holiday mood. Despite my absence from the blog has reduced the number of posts I am confident the experience revived my creativity.

While watching my host cook a delicious breakfast for me and his girlfriend I suddenly realised that knowing how to cook can set a man apart from the crowd. I am not saying men that can't cook don't stand a chance... just that if you can cook or do other things I am going to list you have more... chances. Here's a list of qualities and skills I particularly appreciate and I hope this reflects many other women. They are pretty common skills but somehow, although everybody knows they are highly valued, they keep on being scarce.

  • Cooking. Already talked about it. They don't need to be a chef like my friend's boyfriend but a man who can make fresh pancakes in the morning can score high with girls pretty easily.
  • Dancing. When a guy tells me he knows how to dance (tango, samba, salsa, waltz) I immediately award 100 coolness points. He just got to the next level.
  • Massaging. Believe it or not developing this skill can be a winning card in any game you'd want to engage into.
  • Being a gentleman. This is a very wide set of skills ranging from the obvious to the less obvious. A gentleman is always kind and caring not only for his date but also for the rest of the people involved in the party/holiday/night out. He waits and opens the doors for you, doesn't laugh at dirty low jokes coming his way.
  • Being concise. Silence in a man is really fascinating, a chitchat box is not.
  • Band player, photographer, painter. They're artists... a girl has so much to discover...
