On cleaning

Last Sunday I wrote about self discipline and how it is important to be self disciplined even when adulthood has started. This time I'll devote the post of the day to home cleaning.

There's nothing quite like your apartment or your work desk smelling fresh clean. It is inspiring, compelling, instantly motivating and inherently satisfying. Besides being the swimming pool day (by the way I managed to work out this week end), Sunday is also the "cleaning day".

I never talked myself into hiring a cleaning aid because ultimately crazy statement alert: I like cleaning my own apartment. Some people I hang out with might think cleaning your own place is a waste of precious time, but I disagree. The act of cleaning my own mess makes me accountable for what I do and for this reason I behave more responsibly during the entire week. In addition to that, the "excuse" I  have to clean my apartment gives me time to think on my own about my life, the present day and the day ahead. There's nothing like dusting your home theater set while planning the day that will follow.

In recent studies I have read about but I am too lazy to link researchers have also proved performing repetitive and physical tasks like the ones cleaning entails boosts creativity as it allows your mind to wander uncontrolled and almost totally detached from what the body is doing.

Clean your place, you'll gain in creativity and hygiene!
