Roku: the good and bad

I got an Internet TV box: Roku!
I bought it on amazon.co.uk because out of the reviews it sounded like the best, yet I faced some hurdles and disappointments from this purchase, which are somewhat related to my lack of further research. First of all, Roku doesn't have a YouTube channel anymore! This shocked me, supposedly they weren't using the YouTube api properly and Google stopped them from doing so. In addition, the signup flow of Roku forces you to have a credit card of an account based in the U.S.A. Seriously? I get it that channels like hulu and netflix can be seen only within the U.S. but why on Earth should I have a U.S. account if I simply want to see channels available worldwide. This is something that drove me mad and I could overcome such stupid signup flow only with the assistance of a customer service representative. The assistance experience was excellent, yet the signup was extremely frustrating. There is a whole world outside the U.S. and nobody seems to care: this is simply stupid and myopic, since getting euros instead of dollars is with no doubt better.
The good stuff about Roku, once you get it working, are all the free channels and the funny tv shows you can find. I am already hooked up on a tv show called: Awkward Embraces.

This show was defined as the female version of The big bang theory mixed with Sex and the City. You must therefore understand that there was no way I couldn't like it. It's written, produced and also acted by Jessica Mills, which supposedly produces this show as a side job. This is what she says in this interview. Right now Awkward Embraces is being screened at the International Television Festival.

Next show to check out? Of course: Ask Palpatine.
