Google’s China Exit Strategy: Watch This Space | Epicenter | Wired.com

Google and China: this is good material for future history books. The battle against censorship was on diplomatic grounds. Google accepted some bargain in 2006 hoping it will lead to more internet freedom in China, but this never happened. The inevitable has been reached and Google is playing its part, the part every western country should be playing: the child who decided to rebel against the big-brawny schoolyard bully. China is the bully: economically, politically and technologically speaking. The awareness of managing the fastest growing economy gives the Chinese government the illusion they can do whatever they want forever. Google woke us all: they can't keep on censoring information, they can't keep on bullying other kids in the school-yard forever.
Who will win, then? Any guess?
