Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: movie review

8.5/10
Brilliant movie, even if it was somewhat slow I liked it a lot. And I am not typically someone who likes slow movies. As soon as I saw the poster of this movie I knew I should have watched it. Why? Don't know really but I like brainy movies, I think watching so many episodes of Columbo with my dad messed up my head.
I like when mysteries are solved without a shot of the gun or too spectacular scenes; simply put I like to see the brain winning over the physicality of it all.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is brilliant for different reasons:

1) Acting. I think  I somewhat got used to shitty acting, since while watching this movie I was realizing how credible, accurate, professional every step and every word muttered by the actors seemed and felt. Chapeau for the casting and to Gary Oldman who is simply a master.

2) Soundtrack.  You can listen to a song from the soundtrack by clicking on the Grooveshark widget while reading ;) Once again, it plays a great role. It greatly reminded me of the score of an old Italian mini-series "La piovra" or in English "The octopus" that described the intricacies of Sicilian mafia. Funnily enough that score was composed by Ennio Morricone and other songs for the series were sung by Riz Ortolani. In Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy the music doesn't take the stage as much in Drive but in the last scene which featured a great song by Julio Iglesias, 'La Mer' (1976) it did. It was indeed unusual for the movie to listen to such an energetic song, as compared to the other parts of the score, which were gloomier and certainly of different nature.
3) Photography. The shameless display of shade and light, the cigarett-smoke filled the rooms and again that yellowish old light, somewhat like a photographic filter placed in front of each frame just gave me the real feeling of being in the 70s. I recommend to see this movie to any film passionate, who is willing to spend 2 hours carefully watching the puzzle of trust, power, and money slowly assemble in front of himself.
