Why this name? The origins of hypnogram

I was looking for a word that would be unique and interesting enough to become the new title of my blog and I stumbled in a hypnogram. I must say it was a rather fortunate find, somewhat serendipitous as only wild Link surfing can be. 'Learning never stops' was the message I wanted to get across when I recalled: the moment when we absorb what we have lived, read, seen during the day is the sleep.

Learning happens while we sleep and sleep itself is made of different phases. It's not just 8 or 7 hours of unconsciousness, but a series of consequent cycles of different nature, the most famous of which is the REM Sleep, which stands for Rapid Eye Movement. There are several competing studies advancing a connection between sleep and learning and only recently (2009) studies have proved so in rats (wikipedia).

Exploring this topic brought me to this graph which represents the various phases of sleep over a night time and I thought it was a perfect match for the purpose of my blog. Deep sleep is about learning, Rapid eye movement sleep is about dreaming: two essential aspects of my life.
